Welcome to Hammersmith Bed & Breakfast
Situated in the heart of the West Mainland, near to the lochs of Harray and Stenness, we are close to the World Heritage neolithic sites - Ring of Brodgar, Ness of Brodgar, Standing Stones of Stenness, Maeshowe, Skara Brae.
For any walkers there are walks all over the island, and we have our various books to help you along. There are also RSPB sites dotted around. Seasonal wildlife is amazing to see here, puffin watching between end April and Aug, seals always popping their heads up to say hello, and orcas dolphins can be spotted if you are very lucky.
In summer we have long daylight hours, often not getting really dark at all, through to the short days in winter, when the Northern lights, Aurora Borealis can be seen if you are lucky to have a clear night. The skies are amazing here.
Please be aware that you will need some form of transport if you stay here as buses are not frequent past our house.
We are on the main road from Birsay to Finstown, conveniently close to Kirkwall (12 miles) and Stromness (10 miles).
With the Merkister Hotel only 2 miles and the Smithfield Hotel 3 miles away you do not have to go far for a relaxing drink or a meal. Fishermen can take advantage of the hire boats available at the Merkister Hotel which is situated on the shore of Loch Harray.
