Situated in the heart of the west Mainland, near to the lochs of Harray and Stenness, we are close to the World Heritage neolithic sites. Phil has now qualified as a Scottish Tour Guide Association Green Badge guide for Orkney. Tours can be arranged if required. Obviously he is free to give guidance and information to guests. We are on the main road from Birsay to Finstown, on a bus route, conveniently close to both Kirkwall (12 miles) and Stromness (10 miles). With the Merkister Hotel only 2 miles and the Smithfield Arms 3 miles away you do not have to go far for a relaxing drink or a meal. Fishermen can take advantage of the hire boats available at the Merkister Hotel which is situated on the shore of Loch Harray.Harray Stores (general store and off-licence), 1 mile away, has home made bread, pastries, cakes and biscuits as well as fuel pumps. Dounby, 4 miles away, has a Co-op (with fuel pumps), a hairdressers and a post office. We have two twin rooms available on the first floor with en-suites and a double room on the ground floor with a walk-in shower room. All rooms are a good size and can accommodate a folding bed for a child up to the age of 12. Details of the rooms are here. Breakfast is served in our separate dining room. There is a lounge area on the first floor where you can relax at any time in comfy chairs. There is also a selection of DVDs to watch in your room. There is a further lounge area in our Sun Room.Parking is available, off road, at the side of the house.
